Police Officer Slashed During Occupy San Francisco March

Two police officers were attacked during an Occupy San Francisco march Saturday, police said.

Police spokesman Carlos Manfredi said officers were attempting to hold the line and keep protesters out of an intersection when a woman came from the crowd and slashed an officer’s hand with a pen knife or razor blade, disappearing before he realized he’d been cut.

In a second incident in the same location, police said a man then came out of the crowd and grabbed an officer’s radio, and when the officer chased him another male protester shoved the officer, tearing his uniform and leaving him with a bleeding laceration on his face.

Foreign Policy Debate Wrap-Up

quote:

The CBS/National Journal "Commander-in-Chief" debate grilled candidates on questions of foreign policy, asking for the specific decisions they would make if they were the at the top of the chain of command in the White House. I wouldn't call it the flashiest debate we've seen so far - it was a fairly quiet Saturday night, as none of the candidates committed any major gaffes, there was no embarrassing in-fighting, and the whole production was pretty low-key. The contenders generally took President Obama to task for making it his mission to nurture American impotence on the international arena, with Pakistan, Iran's nuclear program, Iraq/Afghanistan withdrawal, China, the eurozone criss, foreign aid, and torture-related themes figuring largely (although, I was rather surprised that Egypt was mentioned while I don't think we heard the word 'Libya' even once!).

I hate to say it, but I think that the biggest loser tonight was Herman Cain. As much as I like Cain's personality, confidence and street smarts, he just didn't demonstrate any sort of mastery or command of the issues presented. Almost all of his answers were hopelessly vague. While he's often reiterated that he could learn on-the-job and would know how to surround himself with the right advisers, I just don't think the American people would be comfortable with a President learning about foreign policy while on-the-job (although, they did elect Barack Obama, so, wash). When asked whether Pakistan was a friend or foe, he answered, "We don't know," while the other candidates had plenty of decisive things to say on the subject - not very reassuring.

Gloria Cain speaks out about sexual harassment allegations
By Nia-Malika Henderson

In her first televised interview ever, Gloria Cain, wife of Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain, sat down with her husband and said that the allegations of sexual harassment against her him don’t square with the man she knows.

“You hear the graphic allegations and we know that would have been something that’s totally disrespectful of her as a woman,” she said, according to partial transcripts of an interview with Greta Van Susteren that will air on Fox News Monday night. “And I know the type of person he is. He totally respects women.”

Cain, who has been married for 43 years to the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza has been silent for much of her husband’s race for the White House. Her last public appearance came in May when her husband announced his candidacy.

“I’m thinking he would have to have a split personality to do the things that were said,” Cain said.

CBS on defensive after Republican debate
quote:

The Republican presidential candidates took plenty of contentious positions in Saturday's debate, but it was the television network that aired the debate that found itself on the receiving end of a barrage of criticism on Sunday.

CBS News, which co-hosted the foreign policy debate in South Carolina with National Journal, was playing defense Sunday against complaints by viewers who were unable to watch the last half-hour and accusations by some of the candidates that they were deliberately ignored.

Although the first hour of the debate aired nationally on CBS stations, the last half-hour was available to most of the country only through a live webcast that quickly became overloaded by viewers attempting to connect. That led to a stop-and-start video stream that rendered the end of the debate unwatchable for many.

Someday I'll write my entire testimony, but as the former Rec. & Volunteer Manager for a 1000 bed Christian homeless shelter, when I took on the job I was unsaved, a militant atheist that as a teen (one of my readers grew up w/ me) my friends, and I took great delight in disrupting NJ Shore church services.
We roamed like young lions and when we heard the old hymns would be drawn in to harass, disrupt, physically harass, to the point of even having a big fist fight outside of a church w/ teens from Teen Challenge that came from Pa. to show us Cross & The Switchblade...coincidentally I ended up a few decades later sitting under the late David Wilkerson, TC founder.

Supreme Court will hear health care case this term

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court said Monday it will hear arguments next March over President Barack Obama's health care overhaul — a case that could shake the political landscape as voters are deciding if Obama deserves another term.

This decision to hear arguments in the spring sets up an election-year showdown over the White House's main domestic policy achievement. And it allows plenty of time for a decision in late June, just over four months before Election Day.

The justices announced they will hear an extraordinary five-and-a-half hours of arguments from lawyers on the constitutionality of a provision at the heart of the law and three other related questions about the act. The central provision in question is the requirement that individuals buy health insurance starting in 2014 or pay a penalty.
