-- President Obama in a pre-Super Bowl interview with “Today” host Matt Lauer when asked about the president’s prediction before the 2009 Super Bowl that if he couldn’t affect an economic turnaround in three years that his presidency would be a “one-term proposition.”
Democratic optimism is soaring.
The unemployment rate is down, the president’s job approval rating has returned to its typical level in the high 40s and the Republican nominating process resembles nothing so much as “Cannonball Run”: a coast-to-coast contest punctuated by pratfalls.

Eight people were arrested.
Officials said it was relatively peaceful but got tense late in the day when an officer was hit in the face with a brick as police pushed protesters out of the last section of the park. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment.

MANASSAS, Va. — An illegal immigrant from Bolivia who caused a drunken driving crash that killed a Benedictine nun and severely injured two others has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Carlos Martinelly Montano was sentenced Friday. The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and driving without a license in the 2010 crash. He was convicted of murder at a trial in October, a conviction his attorneys say they plan to appeal.
The case drew national attention partly because of the victims — three elderly nuns — but mostly because of Martinelly’s immigration status.

In his remarks, the president quoted Luke 12:48: "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." The president sees this verse as a command for him to raise taxes on the successful so the money can be "spread around" to the less successful. If the president's interpretation of this verse sounds a little like Karl Marx, it should. Marx said, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
The president took a quote that was meant to mean something else and twisted it to serve his political ends. He took a verse out of context, created a pretext and then preached on politics. A conservative spinner might also wrongly use Matthew 13:12 to justify cutting taxes. That verse says: "Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance."
